Cool Summer Temperatures

One of the best things about Lake Toxaway for many of our residents is our weather.  Our mountain altitude, abundant vegetation, and weather patterns provide a true respite from the summer heat.  Our summer showers, though frequent, are often short-lived, so almost every day offers an opportunity to get outside and enjoy our beautiful setting.

Amazing Fall Foliage

Another highlight to life in Lake Toxaway is the amazing display of colors that occurs each fall. First we glimpse the deep reds of the early-changing dogwoods and sourwoods and the yellows of the tulip poplars. Next come the colors of the black gums and maples, followed by the red oaks, with color spreading down into the valleys as autunm progresses and then slowly fade to rust and gold. Weather determines exactly when the trees in our area will show their best colors: the ideal conditions include a cool, wet spring and drier late summer, followed by warm days, cool nights, and just a little rainfall. With elevations ranging up to nearly 4,800 feet, the leaves in Lake Toxaway often begin to change in early October, peak in the middle of the month, and continue into November. Each fall, you can find an excellent interactive map of leaf color predictions in North Carolina at VisitNC.com or view current foliage conditions across the nation thanks to The Weather Channel.
