Brevard Music Center - Founded in 1936, the Brevard Music Center has matured into one of this country’s premier summer training programs and festivals. More than 400 gifted students, ages 14 through post-college, come to study with members of a distinguished artist faculty and with renowned guest artists on a wooded 180-acre campus. For seven weeks, students participate in a vigorous program of instruction that includes ensembles, private lessons, and chamber music. Each summer, faculty and students work together to present more than 80 concerts to the public, with total audience numbers of more than 30,000.
Porter Center for the Performing Arts - Inaugurated in 1998, the Porter Center for Performing Arts at Brevard College has quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest performance halls in the South. Its Scott Concert Hall has seating for 700 (500 on the main floor, 200 in the balcony), superlative acoustics, and unobstructed sightlines. The large stage can house a full symphony, yet it can be intimate enough for a solo piano recital. The Porter Center’s acclaimed concert series has brought in some of the world’s most talented musicians in a dizzying array of styles – from Doc Watson to Herbie Hancock, from Harry Belafonte to the Emerson String Quartet, from Leahy to the Afro-Cuban All-Stars. It is also the main performance space for Brevard College students from the Music and Theatre Departments, a campus meeting space, and a gathering spot for some of the groups that populate Transylvania County’s amazingly rich cultural scene – the Brevard Philharmonic, Brevard Little Theatre, Brevard Community Band, Transylvania Choral Society and more.
Scenic 276 Arts Corridor - This 13-mile stretch of road from Brevard to the NC/SC state line is dotted with art galleries, working and teaching studios, shops, charming lodgings, home-style dining, and fresh local produce. You can even meet the artists at many of the studios, which feature pottery, glass art, paintings, sculpture, photography, metal work, and more.
